The focus of the leading international fair for the furniture and interior construction industries’ supplying sections is on forward-looking industry topics, a succession of attractive special areas and a top-level programme of events. Read on to discover what awaits visitors and exhibitors at interzum.
Innovative "Disruptive Materials“ special event
Under the banner “Disruptive Materials – Changing the Future”, the agency and incubator for future materials and technology HAUTE INNOVATION from Berlin will be presenting some of the latest materials innovations and disruptive technologies at interzum 2019.
Designers and architects are increasingly turning their attention to the issue of an impending shortage of resources. They are conscious of the knowledge of old craftsman’s techniques that had been lost and are aware of locally available plants or leftover materials.
Material flows that were not relevant for industrial mass production are being rediscovered and returning to the fore as we develop a greater awareness of the need to close materials cycles.
The special event will be divided into four main areas of focus: biological transformation, resource efficiency and sustainability, digital and smart materials, and production-related materials innovations.
At the new "Digitalization: Focus on Consumer Trends" piazza, interzum 2019 will unveil what benefits the fourth industrial revolution has in store for the furniture and interiors industry, and how it will help to meet the future expectations of consumers.
This is where exhibitors will present their physical products featuring digital components, as well as new business models and solutions in which digitalisation influences design, production, sales, logistics or recycling.
This section of the trade fair will also look at issues such as how the expectations of furniture production and interior design can be served by means of digitalisation and what role interzum’s products and solutions have to play in this.
As part of this there is a focus on three essential, globally applicable consumer trends: conscious and sustainable living, personalising furniture and home landscapes, and digitalisation in furniture.
"Digital Printing" special event area
With the “Digital Printing” exhibition, interzum 2019 has also dedicated a special area to this subject. It will highlight both pioneering use of the technology as well as its broad spectrum of applications.
All the important process steps required for the integration of digital printing into furniture production and interior design will be presented here – from the design concept to the finished piece of furniture.
In this way, visitors to the trade fair will discover how digital printing technology can be integrated into their processes, what process steps have to be taken into consideration and what expertise is available.
Outstanding programme of events
There is also a top-class programme of events awaiting trade visitors and exhibitors on all four days of the trade fair.
For instance, the three congresses “Disruptive Materials”, “Furnishing Trends” and “Digitalisation: Focus on Consumer Trends!” will present numerous lectures and panel discussions on the relevant key topics.
Furthermore, Speakers’ Corner will offer trade visitors an especially wide variety of topics. This is where interzum’s exhibitors have an opportunity to make a 25-minute presentation, over which they have free rein.
Together with Koelnmesse, the Association of the German Wood-Based Materials Industry (VHI), the Dresden Institute of Timber Technology (IHD) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut (Fraunhofer WKI) will also be holding an industry gathering and exchange of ideas the day before interzum opens.
In addition, the presentation of the VDID NEWCOMERS’ AWARD 2019 will take place on 24 May as part of the VDID’s Industrial Design Day conference.
The second part of our preview of interzum 2019 will be available soon.
