Vilmers from Lithuania

A new era for custom-made sofas

Lithuanian manufacturer Vilmers has rediscovered the secret of comfortable living: furniture that combines practical, functional design with sustainability. The Lithuanian-based company with Scandinavian capital mainly produces sofas and has been in the custom-made furniture business since 1997. In Germany, Vilmers is on the rise: almost a tenth of its production is exported there.

Quality is an important factor on the German market

When asked about the secret of success with German customers, CEO Ovidijus Jalonskis answers immediately: "People in Germany eat, sleep and breathe quality. They value craftsmanship and have a love of detail. Fortunately, through years of working with partners throughout Scandinavia and Western Europe, we've learned to pay focused attention to every piece of furniture that leaves our 25,000-square-metre factory." According to Jalonskis, it did not take long for the company to build up its customer base in Germany. The orders there usually come from large furniture galleries.

According to the managing director, German customers are willing to go to great lengths in search of sustainably produced, functionally designed furniture that reflects their individual preferences. "German customers order almost 70 unique pieces from us every week and appreciate the individual design," he explains. "And that's not all - customers are always delighted with our exquisite craftsmanship, high-quality materials and timeless design."

Pioneers of sustainability

Growing awareness of environmental issues has increased the pressure on companies worldwide. At Vilmers, sustainability is an everyday practice: they use only recycled plastics for their packaging, and paper is a long-forgotten relic in their paperless office. A new project has been launched to supply the company's factory and office buildings with solar energy.

Rapid production

Vilmers continues to invest in technological development. In 2018, it was the first company in the world to install Industry 4.0-compliant "Lectra" technology for fabric cutting. This not only minimises fabric waste, but also speeds up the company's production line. It is thus able to produce and deliver a sofa in just three working days after order confirmation.

"Ordering the perfect sofa for your living room is an almost seamless process," Jalonskis explains. "It is the result of years of refining our production, training our team and developing relationships with our designers and fabric suppliers. What's outstanding is that we're constantly evolving - so people can just relax and enjoy the best in bespoke furniture, and we take care of the rest."
