Comfy, weatherproof upholstery
When it comes to outdoor furniture designed with comfort in mind, there is a strong trend towards items with luxuriant upholstery. One such example is the BigFoot armchair from Italian manufacturer Fast S.p.A., whose plush cushions feature a polyurethane foam core and water-repellent fabric. Brixx is the first fully upholstered collection from the outdoor furniture company DEDON. The playful seating elements are available with and without fixed backrests and can be used together in any combination.
Special materials for the outdoors
The Leo sofa from Belgium-based Vincent Sheppard is constructed from a decorative lattice of acrylic ropes on an aluminium frame. The cushions on the two-seater sofa are made from quick-dry foam with removable covers. The suitability of such upholstered furniture for outdoor use has been significantly optimised in recent years, because innovative suppliers have researched weatherproof materials.
One such specialist is UME s.r.l. from Italy. The company’s portfolio includes upholstery for outdoor furniture that consists of a water-repellent microfibre fabric made of polyurethane foam featuring open-cell drainage. This material has withstood the highest requirements in testing.
Benefits of sled-base furniture
Outdoor furniture with metal sled-type runners is another popular style and has proven to be practical and attractive on various types of base, including lawns, flagstones or decking. After all, it doesn’t sink into natural substrates and provides a secure footing on flooring made of wood, stone and composite materials.
One example is the elegantly curved Bellevie bench made of aluminium and steel, produced by French outdoor furniture manufacturer Fermob. This bench is available in a wide colour palette from aubergine to carrot as well as in muted shades such as steel grey. There’s even an upholstered version: the Bellevie Sofa.
Relaxation in a range of colours
With its Toscana collection, Spanish company Industrias San Isidro, or ISI for short, presents an entire range of sled-base garden furniture made of aluminium with colourful powder coatings. The range includes a chair, bench, stool and the Toscana Table. There are also sled bases for outdoor spaces that are designed to rock, such as the MBRACE rocking chair, which is complemented by the wooden frame of designer Sebastian Herkner’s Loon outdoor lamp.
The outdoor living room
Modular outdoor furniture is also currently a hit with the retail trade and with end consumers. With its Riva Lounge, manufacturer conmoto has an extensive modular system in its range, which can be combined as desired to create a personalised outdoor lounge concept. The pieces are light-coloured with a linear design. Their comfortable upholstery gives them a homely feel. The collection consists of weatherproof HPL with stainless steel screw fittings – surfaces which are particularly easy to clean as well as being both light- and scratch-resistant.
Flexible modular system
The flexible Q-Couch from Movisi consists of individual plastic elements, which can be joined together to create seating of any length – depending on how many seats are needed at any one moment. With Quadrat, Vondom has introduced a range of elegant, four-sided tables alongside backless stools and benches, which can even be illuminated by LEDs in the dark.
Sophisticated outdoor furnishings like these make it easy to indulge in healthy and enjoyable leisure activities in the fresh air. Consumers and eating establishments alike are currently willing to spend a little more to gain extra living space outdoors.
