Ohnesorge succeeds Jan Kurth, who for his part remains Managing Director of the Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM). Kurth took over the management of both head associations from Bad Honnef in May 2018 and successfully worked towards the goal of reforming the association structures in a sustainable manner and separating the associations more clearly.
VDM now has two offices - one in the Bad Honnef Association House and one in Herford, where several federal associations of the furniture industry are based under the umbrella of the North Rhine-Westphalian Regional Association of the Wood Industry and Plastics Processing (VHK). The employees at both locations will be interlinked operationally and will work more closely together in future on all furniture-related issues. In this way, the existing capacities are to be used even more efficiently for the companies in the furniture industry. The VDM is made up of a total of eleven regional and trade associations.
The HDH is the roof organisation for nine regional associations and 17 trade associations of the wood industry, including the VDM and the Bundesverband Deutscher Fertigbau (BDF) with its managing directors Achim Hannott and Georg Lange.
Like the VDM, the HDH will remain part of the office community with the BDF in Bad Honnef. In addition, the umbrella association and the BDF have operated a joint capital city office in Berlin for three years.
The new HDH Chief Executive Officer, Ohnesorge, will focus his activities in the German capital and will also remain Managing Director of the German Timber Industry Council (DHWR).
The wood-based associations want to cooperate more closely in future and, in particular, speak with one voice vis-à-vis politicians. With effect from 1 January 2020, the German Sawmill and Wood Industry Federation (DeSH) will also be a new member of the HDH, which should increase the power of the leading association of the wood industry in many areas.
