More German digital platforms wanted

Whether it’s for job hunting, online shopping or chatting with friends on social media, using digital platforms is simply part and parcel of many spheres of life. But it’s not just in the field of B2C that digital platforms are indispensable. Industrial companies also discovered digital platforms for business customers some time ago. They use these platforms to bring together products, services and manufacturing processes

But according to a recent survey by the digital association Bitkom, Germans would like to see more German digital platforms. A large majority agree that this market should not be left to the major players in the US and China.

 

Three quarters (73 per cent) say that German companies should become platform providers themselves. And as many as nine out of ten believe that politicians should provide more support for the development of German and European digital platforms.

Bitkom President Achim Berg commented on the findings: “Germany must go from being a laggard to a pioneer in the platform economy.” The debate on the platform economy would benefit from listening to the younger generation, he added.
