Outdoor furniture – Living in the garden

Outdoor areas become an extended living room thanks to beautiful outdoor furniture. It creates a harmonious transition from indoors to the garden, the balcony or the patio. This is because today's outdoor sofas, armchairs, tables and rugs are designed just as tastefully and carefully as furnishings for interiors. In this way, a unified connection of both zones can be established, which makes leisure time in the fresh air twice as pleasant.

Fern Lounge Chair from Gloster, design: Sebastian Herkner

The organic design of the Fern Lounge Chair is reminiscent of unravelling fern leaves. The comfortable outdoor chair thus makes just as good an impression in the living room as it does in the garden or on the patio. Its woven backrest combines the plantation teakwood typical of Gloster with soft outdoor textiles. This is fastened to a frame of teak that adopts the contours of the backrest and contributes to comfortable seating.

Different back heights lend the chairs of the Fern collection their own respective characters. Fern is available as an opulent armchair and as a smaller high-backed chair. Both versions have a polished teakwood frame that is connected with an aluminium backrest and is woven with soft outdoor rope. Fern is delivered with comfortable seat and back cushions from a selection of 52 different outdoor fabrics.

Fenc-e Nature from Cassina, design: Philippe Starck

Philippe Starck designed the cosy Fenc-e Nature outdoor furniture as a lifestyle collection with casual elegance. Together with Cassina, the French designer has transformed the concept of the classic sofa through the use of premium, environmentally friendly, unusual and weatherproof materials. The seating surface of the two and three-seat sofas is, like the base frame, organically shaped of aluminium in a die casting process. The armrest of solid teakwood with a sandblasted finish has a natural and luxurious appeal.

The frame of painted stainless steel is stretched onto the back element with cord woven by hand or natural, untreated willow. Generously dimensioned cushions for the seating area and backrest are equipped with SoloSoff© upholstery – a product on the basis of blown polyester fibre and memory foam. The backrest can be manually adjusted into two positions.

Inspiration was provided by Asian architecture and a design form from nature: a support rod of solid teakwood following the example of the fork of a branch is fixed in place by two wooden nails. A matching armchair and a side table in two heights complete the collection.

Denia from Weishäupl, design: Jan Benöhr

The armchair and sofa from the Denia series look good on the patio, in the wellness area and, thanks to their comfortable cushions, in the living room. The frame combines aluminium with teakwood, while the rests are covered with fine textile cords. In keeping with this, tables are available with a solid plate of untreated teak slats. The cushions are covered with acrylic cloth or an upholstery fabric of the Weishäupl collection.

Silhouette from Nanimarquina, design: Jaime Hayón

Those who wish can equip both the home and the outdoor area with the same motif rug from Nanimarquina. The Silhouette killims come with chain stitch embroideries for indoors. They lend the rugs an interesting texture and a gentle volume that emphasises the curvy illustrations.

Despite their sophisticated look, they are robust and suitable for both private and public spaces. Suited to these, Nanimarquina offers an outdoor rug produced with the hand-tufting technique. Its fibres consist to 100 percent of recycled PET. It is manufactured in India and also makes for a cosy and comfortable atmosphere outdoors.

Adell from Arper, design: Lievore + Altherr Désile Park

The versatile Adell collection invites to stay awhile. It is manufactured to 80 percent of recycled polypropylene and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor areas. Adell is inspired by nature. The seating feeling is pleasantly soft, like moss, while the form is reminiscent of rounded pebbles. Its inviting design feels comfortable, durable and light. Elegant curves offer a lot of space for sitting.

The surface texture is also reminiscent of natural forms. The concentric design has age rings from trees and stripes as role models, like those found on some shellfish. Lines with an irregular progression structure the entire seat of recycled polypropylene. There are variants with a textured surface, completely upholstered, with simple seat cushions or with a removable covering for inside and outside, as well as with various frames of wood or metal.

Furniture for outdoors today matches its predecessors from the covered living room in terms of comfort and durability. Similar to there, one can gather individual items or modularly structured living landscapes outdoors.
