This was the motto of the Makeathon premiere in incube8, which was held together with Häfele as a partner from the furniture supplier industry on 12 and 13 April 2019. The aim of the event was to come up with innovative ideas for the smart piece of furniture of tomorrow. In addition to the design, the focus was on the concept of the furniture. Furnishings of all kinds were presented as a holistic system that can make a real contribution to the digitalisation of modern living environments. Thanks to its inspiring atmosphere and flexible use of the space, incube8 was able to contribute to creating the framework for innovative innovation.
A total of 23 creators with different backgrounds in design and architecture as well as in the fields of digital and IT took part in the challenge. After exciting keynote speeches by Ursula Geismann, press officer of the Association of the German Furniture Industry and megatrend enthusiast, the participants in small heterogeneous teams created extremely creative designs and concepts for intelligent furniture in an increasingly networked world. Megatrends such as urbanisation, new mobility, sharing economy, sustainability, new work and the aging Silver Society continue to present society with challenging challenges. All participants managed to create solutions with smart furniture, which they were able to present to a jury of experts in the form of short pitches at the end of the makeathon. The innovative results of the winning teams will be presented to the public at interzum (21-24 May 2019), the world's leading trade fair for the furniture supplier industry.
In the end, all participants benefited from the Smart Furniture Makeathon 2019. The participants were able to win prize money totalling € 8,000, make new contacts during informal networking and also look forward to presenting their results at interzum.
