This year's spoga+gafa took a look ahead to the future of outdoor furniture. For the first time, the international garden trade fair dedicated a separate special zone to the pioneering trends of the industry. The international curated Trend Show presented pioneering products and design icons from 2 to 4 September.
The visitors of spoga+gafa traditionally find new products for life outdoors at the stands of the exhibitors. This year the international garden trade fair also presented revolutionary developments in an own Trend Show. Several theme islands stood in the heart of the special zone, which highlighted the significant trends of the industry in the form of the new products of the exhibitors. Under the key themes, material and function, the focus lay among others on sustainable design, designing small areas, new combinations as well as comfort and ergonomics. Outdoor furniture that is trendsetting and ground-breaking for at least the next season were on display.
The Outdoor Furniture Trend Show was curated by selected international industry experts. Members of the jury included among others Jeanette Altherr from the famous design studio, Lievore Altherr from Barcelona and Manuel Rucar from the French trend research office, Chlorosphere. The trend expert from France assesses the products submitted for the special event as evidence of a turnaround: "This year it is thus especially interesting, because the suppliers are trying out new shapes, new functions and unusual materials," reported Manual Rucar. As we can see in the whole worldwide market, we are at quite a turning point.
As the largest garden trade fair in the world, spoga+gafa has always been the stage for worldwide product launches. The design manufacturers of the garden industry presented their soon-to-become icons to an international audience for the first time in Cologne. From here they set course for the outdoor areas of the world. Hence, in addition to future-looking design trends, furniture classics were also presented at this year's Trend Show: Selected garden stools, sunbeds and other furniture that celebrated their premieres at spoga+gafa and which have since established themselves as classics within the industry. Thus, for the exhibitors and trade visitors, the history and the future of furniture trends became tangible and came to life in one area," ascertained Stefan Lohrberg. The director of spoga+gafa plans to underline the innovative power of the trade fair with this Trend Show in the future too.
