Westwing concentrates on the European market

The online furniture retailer Westwing is pulling out of Brazil, Russia and Kazakhstan. In future, the company will concentrate exclusively on the European market, as announced in a recent press release. Talks are already underway with a number of parties interested in taking over the business in the various countries.

Focus on Europe

The reasons given by Westwing for this step included more loyal customers and greater synergies for the development of its e-commerce platform. Westwing also announced that it aims to grow further, and that it could turn to capital market transactions to finance this growth.

Profitable growth

In the first six months of this year, Westwing’s turnover was more than 20 per cent higher than in the same period last year. However, the Munich-based company did not reveal concrete figures. The start-up founded by Delia Fischer also announced that it had now had three successive profitable quarters in terms of operating profit (EBITDA).
